Next time I shopped there, I brought some of these frozen spears home to try. Fresh and organic is ideal. But ideal doesn’t always fit into everyday real life. There are those times when you simply don’t want to or have the time to invest in all the prep to eat fresh. This was one such day. Jack has a few building projects that he wanted to get to right after church and for the first time in a while, I had nothing on the agenda for the day. Quick in and out of the kitchen was my plan for the day.
There was an extra roasted veggie mac n cheese casserole already made to heat up. A simple, no fuss vegetable side was needed. Grilled Asparagus Spears to the rescue! I preheated the oven to 425 degrees. Sprayed my roasting sheet with olive oil spray, and laid the frozen spears out in a single layer. A little sea salt and garlic powder and popped them in the oven for 10 minutes. Perfection! Hot all the way through, slight smokey flavor, and tender.
Pro’s:Grilled Asparagus Spears tasted fresh, just like they came directly off the grill on to the plate. Asparagus tender young stalks are the only ingredients listed on the package. Very convenient and minimally processed. An efficient option for eating clean and getting more veggies on your plate when you don’t have the time to prep.
Cons: The only negative I can see is for those who are committed to eating local and organic. These Grilled Asparagus Spears travel all the way from Peru.
Look for them next time you’re at Trader Joe’s in the frozen food aisle.
Until next time,
