Rich and Creamy Hot Cocoa

Rich and creamy hot cocoa is a must when temps are dropping to single digits.  In the spirit of the season we had our little grandkids in for a Christmas overnight complete with crafts, movies and festive food.  That includes hot cocoa.

Someone couldn’t wait to craft…..

IMG_0431 I had been dreaming about a flavorful hot chocolate made with DIY Almond Milk and sweetened with dates.


I whipped it up in my Vita-Mix for these little rascals.  They loved it and so did their mama’s.

IMG_0437 It’s quick and easy – hardly worth blogging about but if you’re up for sledding, making a snowman, or cuddling up for a good Christmas movie with popcorn, this is a must for bringing holiday cheer.  I added a pinch of cinnamon also as an option.  With or without it is delicious!

Try it once and you’ll be hooked.

Rich and Creamy Hot Cocoa (makes 2 cups)

2 cups DIY Almond Milk

3 – 4 pitted dates

2 tablespoons Dagoba cocoa

pinch sea salt

1 teaspoon natural vanilla

pinch of cinnamon (optional)


Place almond milk, dates, cocoa and a pinch of sea salt and cinnamon (if using) in a blender.  Turn gradually on high and blend until smooth.  Pour into a saucepan and heat.  Add vanilla and serve hot.

How easy is that?

For these little ones 2 cups was divided by 3 and they downed it.

  1. Would Blue Diamond Almond Milk work the same? I’ll try it, and just heating it up on the soup setting on the vitamix wonder machine!

    1. yes…try it and let me know if the BD Almond milk works. Homemade is richer but it still may be yummy! yes indeed that Vita Mix is a wonder machine. I’ll try that too and save myself a dirty pan 🙂
